The Hillwalking club was formed in 1987 and meets on a Saturday once a month – the dates vary but may be obtained from a syllabus produced each January, which also gives details of the walks we are going to attempt. There are usually two week-ends away.
All walks set off from The Steeple at 8am. New members very welcome.
Walks are graded as follows:
MUNRO: a very strenuous walk, climbing to 3000ft or over. Not suitable for the inexperienced or ill-equipped.
CORBETT: a mountain between 2500ft & 3000ft. Also a strenuous walk.
GRAHAM: a mountain between 2000ft & 2500ft. Also a strenuous walk.
DONALD: a Lowland hill of 2000ft or over.
MARILYN: a hill with prominence of 150m (~510ft) or more regardless of height.
GRADE A: a hill walk climbing on rough ground over 1500ft.
GRADE B: a lower hill walk or low level walk more than 7 miles long.
GRADE C: a low level walk on roads or paths up to 7 miles long.
Walking boots or hiking shoes are essential on all walks. Bring waterproofs, warm layers, packed lunch and drinks on low level walks. On hill walks a hat and gloves should also be brought, even in the summer. No dogs allowed on walks.
